I tried it just over a week ago for the second time. The first time I went over there I had a couple of chub just under 3lb along with some other smaller stuff and since this was in June I went straight to the weir pool and only fished this a long with a couple of swims just before it

On my recent visit I wanted to check out the entire stretch along with the pond but with only about 3 hours before it got dark I did'nt really give myself a lot of time to fish. I still caught quite a few small chub and a surprising number of minows. I also had a much better fish which really bent my match rod as I was lifting it out the water but I should have used my net as this made it slip off the hook. It looked like a roach or dace of about half pound or so

The Pond was much bigger than I expected certainly bigger than many of the pits at southminster, it looked more like a lake to be honest. I got to the pond during half light and did see what looked like fish activity i.e swirls and a few spooked splashes as I approached the margins so I'm sure theres fish in there although I did'nt have time to fish it unfortunately

It's in Writtle near Chelmsford but the main stretch as shown on google maps (type River Wid) now belongs to BDAC

However if you look at where it comes to an end and then switch to satelite mode you will see that it actually continues miles upstream although I have no idea if these areas are club owned or accessible to the public?

i have just got back from the wid. 1st i walked down to the weirpool which is not stepped like many weirs on small rivers and looks nice then i walked from skeggs farm to the river can in the park. i met 2 members
on the bank who both caught small chubb, roach and dace. the river has some nice swims split by fast water over clean gravel something not always seen on sx rivers. i took loads of pics and found several large pools perfect for an evening session.one bad point was the amount rubbish on the banks however this isnt hard to rectify. great acquisition
for the club.

hi all
today i fished the wid from about 14.30 til 19.30. i went to the weirpool
there was a guy with his son and they had a few small fish downstream and the son was fishing the 2nd swim out of the 2 on the weirpool and had a nice 2lb 8oz chubb. i settle in the 1st swim and decided lobworm
on one leger and maggot on the other. on the maggot rod the bobbin kept jumping about as if small fish were attacking it and i reeled in my 1st river wid fish a minnow. as it started to get dark i was messing around making a cup of tea when i noticed the bobbin on the worm was right upto the rod i always use a baitrunner type reel however the fish dropped the bait when the bobbin got to the top of the rod.as it got darker the bobbin hit the rod on the double maggot and a nice chubb of 3lb 6ozs was in the net, a quick foto and weigh in then he was back in the river. it was proper dark now and i didnt have another bite. i lost 5 hooks ,it is proper snaggy. i am fairly pleased on my 1st visit but may try further downstream next time.

I had my first trip to this river today. I wandered down stream and the IMHO the first stretch is not up to much. Average depth about 12 inches. Get yourself over the barbed wire fence and things start looking up. It still not very deep, perhaps 2ft in places but there are some nice looking swims. I trotted maggots and worms in a couple of swims and had a few roach and my first chub of the year. Not very big about a 1lb 8oz but good fun on light gear.
I was using a 15ft waggler rod but I would recommend something shorter as my tackle spent as much time snagged in the tree branches as it did in the water. Laughing

I didn`t try under the bridge but I spoke to a guy who said that someone had a 3lb bream from a swim just before the bridge. Apparently the EA had dug the river bed a bit and it was a little deeper than usual.
