Asheldham is lovely, u can now nightfish anywhere u can get a bivvy up - which is basically the car park bank, the meadow, or over the bridge.

the meadow is a lovely place to fish as u normally get that whole bay to yourself, its very shallow tho especially at the moment as the water level is down about a foot after a nearby fire.

deeper water is found in the car park swims furthest from the gate and over the bridge facing south to the car park (the other swim facing north is shallow again)

we have nighted it 3 times this season and its been good fishing but it was a bit slower last week, most fish came an hour or 2 either side of dusk with not much happening in the day but i think they were feeding elsewhere as they have a lot of options

boilies have worked best when halved or shaved to a pellet shape and tipped with pop-up corn. tigers have also had a few fish and they definately respond to a bit of bait going in, the plop of a single boilie or a small handful of pellets often induced a bite.

its a very silty lake and last time i went down to 1/2 oz leads to try and stay on top of it, swims directly under trees are worse for this

I fished asheldham on thursday and friday. On thursday I had two common carp one of around 9lb and one of just over 10lb.

The 9lb fish was caught on a float fished sweetcorn, the other one was caught on ledgered sweetcorn boilies (2) topped with a glugged piece of artificial sweetcorn.

On Friday I had a Perch around a pound and a half and a few small roach

Reallly nice Lake

Sorry I haven't posted a reply. I went a couple of weeks ago now and fished for carp and silverfish. I fished from the swims over the bridge. I had two carp (both signle figure) on chick peas and caught lots of roach on maggot.

My brother caught a nice sized perch on a couple of red maggots.

It was the first time I went and the place looked really nice and I was suprised why I have never been there before. I've been to Southminster loads and didn't realise it was so close to it.

I had two day sessions around 6 weeks ago, The first day I had two 10lb common carp, one on floatfished sweetcorn, about a rods length out and the other one was out in the middle with ledgered, 2 sweetcorn boilies topped with a imitation floater. The next day I had some small roach and a decent perch at just under 2lb on chopped worm. I fished it about a month ago and I blanked and the only thing caught on the lake, was small roach on the pole.

Havent fished it for 6 weeks or so but it normally chucks a couple out even in the colder months, they patrol the margins so i normally put 1 off the rod tip and 1 to the far margin, a good quality boilie with a small amount of loosefeed normally works for me at this time of year.

Good luck

I fished it Sunday and there we’re only two of us on the lake, probably a wise move as the heavy rain/wind was really battering!!
I was fishing for the silvers but unfortunately they didn’t really make an appearance and I only managed a nice perch over the 1lb mark along with a couple of carp that took my worm/maggot baits. I only landed one of these though which was just under 8lb the other one evaded my net when the hook pulled free.

Plenty of carp could be seen jumping and swirling around all over the lake so they still seem pretty active what with the mild weather we’ve been having.

The other guy told me he had 4 carp out

I’d just like to say that I’m sorry to hear the sad news that the Asheldham Bailiff has died. I saw and spoke to him on both my previous visits this season and he seemed like a really helpful friendly guy

Managed to cram in another session at the weekend possibly my last before close season. The warm weathers definitely got them on the feed. On Saturday I managed plenty of Roach, the odd Rudd, another Perch over the pound mark as well as a couple of Carp with the best being this nice 15lb 9oz caught on the float using my trusty match rod and like 3-4lb line.
I don’t know what it is about Asheldam’s carp but they look kinda weird Anyone else think this? i.e slim body, Big Solid Head, Bulgy eyes and sort of goofy looking. The club refers to them as Wild Carp which would suggest that they’re as natural as you can get but they look like a strain of carp that’s been modified in some way! but hey what do I know I’m just happy to catch them every now and again… Arrow
