Looking forward to the World Cup, most of the big teams are in there so it should be a great tournament (shame Ireland’s chances we’re somewhat robbed from them due to the handball incident!)

Anyway I noticed this rough guide of how the draw will probably go:-

www.goal.com/en/news/1...ible-setup

Personally I agree with doing Seeded pot 1 and then European pot 2 to keep a max of 2 Euro teams per group but after that I think the rest of the teams should just be mixed together into 1 pot and drawn randomly into each group. I realise FIFA won’t want two of any other nation in the same group and I totally I agree with that but all they need to do if a nation is already in a group is shift the team along to the next valid group and re-pick for the current group. Otherwise Asian teams never get mixed with North American teams and African teams can only be drawn with Brazil and Argentina but the lesser South American teams never get the opportunity to be drawn with an African nation well apart from South Africa of course being that they are seeded.

Personally I think this is the only true way to randomly mix up the teams without Nations clashing but either way I’m still looking forward to the draw on the 4th Dec…

Well I kinda agree with seedings otherwise you risk all the top teams knocking each other out at the early stages. Imagine if England and Germany we’re knocked out at the first hurdle due to being grouped with the likes of Brazil and Spain. If a less skilful team progresses further due to only being grouped with the likes of New Zealand, Honduras etc.. it wouldn’t seem very justified?

I guess what I’m really trying to say is I’d rather see the most skilful deserved teams making it through to the final games and none more so than some of the smaller nations just so long as they’ve had to play an even kill of high ranked teams to get there!

But that is elitist isnt it???

So what about the FA Cup & League Cup should they be seeded??

If your the Worlds Best team you have to beat the worlds best teams put in front of you to win it, not get an helping hand by being seeded. If that's the case then why bother with qualifying and just put the top 16 clubs in the world through to the world cup finals and be done with it!!!

Well the way I see it, the seeded teams have earned this privilege from their FIFA world ranking due to consistently good performance in international matches and previous World Cups. I’m not saying I only want to see the 16 biggest teams making the last 16 to be honest par England I’d love to see a small nation go all the way!
but sticking the most likely winners into one or two groups wouldn’t make for a realistic and even tournament. Winning the world cup should be a massive challenge for any team and doing things this way just helps ensure that the most deserved winners stay in the competition longer and advance to the last 16 and beyond it doesn’t stop any team from progressing to the world cup final

Remember this tournament is being bought to the world stage so people will expect the highest standards of play in the later stages of the competion and will want to see the most skilful and best performing teams worthy of show casing a World Cup final!! be it Brazil or be it Honduras!

The fa cup can always be won by a lucky team. Thats what makes it so much fun. It is also spread over a season. However, the world cup is spread over 3-4weeks and FIFA want to get as much tv money as possible. And the tv companies want to see a return on their investment. For arguments sake, if Brasil were the only qualifiers from a group with say, italy, spain, argentina in it, then its highly likely that they will go on and win it. So in effect the result is known after the first 2 weeks. Same if its just a straight forward knock out. And If many of the larger footballing nations aren`t in it after the first round thats lost revenue. And we all know that football is more a business than a sport these days. Wink

Having looked at the seeds you can see its a commercial cup as they have seeded South Africa as A1 so they avoid the big teams and hopefully stay in longer!!

In reality its all about the money not football

Sorry but I think it’s the premiere teams that are more about the money. Highly priced players, clubs that can or can’t afford to buy them and then you have the most random players and teams thrown together playing for a club that in reality doesn’t really mean a great deal!

Yeah I agree there is money involved with a lot of WC decisions but giving South Africa the privilege of being a seeded team for hosting this massive tournament seems like a good move to help keep the country buzzing!
So long as the majority of other teams still have to play through big seeded teams this will then ensure that the World Cup is won by the best team in the world. The FA cup may be more open to a lot more teams but this is played for every year and is a minor cup in comparison. Giving too many smaller teams an easy run to the final would just under value the achievement of winning the World Cup.
When an African nation wins its first World Cup (and it will happen some day!) it will be amazing to see them having to play through the very best to get there and it’s these sort of achievements that make World Cup history!

I can see why thet seed it but dont agree with it at all. They should all be put in the pot together and take their chance.....

Think of it this way...when the draw has taken place....

Brazil v New Zealand (Possibly?)....Who would you Honestly support??

I'm guessing 75% of us would be wanting the underdog to win....???

So why seed it just for TV?????

Another thought...

Is the World Cup is like Wimbledon seeding.....because of the seedings, you will only really see a decent game/match in the 2nd week.
