I was a member of Maldon a couple of years ago, some nice waters, but IMHO let down a bit by lack of decent baliffing - in 2 seasons I don't think my permit was checked at all.

As a result some of the more remote parts of thier fisheries looked more like landfill sites. (the weirpool end of rickets, and the bushes behind the back of bog grove I remember were in a disgusting state last time I fished them!)

Seems they've lost the water I really liked - Ricketts Backwater, had some nice dace and chub from there.

OTOH Totham pit was immaculate, but always seemed very busy!

I'm having my first season at the club this year.Fished a few of their waters.I'm not a serious carper at all, normally fish 1 carp rod out and float fish for smaller stuff with another. Here are my views on each.

Totham Pit.

Beautiful looking lake and no doubt their finest. Also the busiest and does attract the bivvy boys especially at weeknds. Some of these are idiots too with no thought for people that just want a relaxing quiet days fishing. Many swims are also inaccesible to fish due to overhanging trees.Float fishing for silvers has been very dissapointing.

Slough House Farm

Very open lake which always seems windy.Plenty of room to fish.Had some good days there and some not so good.Plenty of small Rudd about in the summer and also a few 5lb carp to float fish for.Never caught anything large there and never seen anyone catch anything either.

Langford Little Lakes.

Nice lake, especially good for showing kids about fishing.Plenty of small(and i mean very small) stuff about.Seen a few people catch a few bigger fish there too.

Bog Grove

Another small lake really for small fish again. The few times i've been i've not been able to get past any of the tiny fish in which there are plenty.

Overall its not bad value for money. There is still a bit of a problem with litter and baliffing definitely needs improving.

Don't think i'll be joining again next year though.

I live between M.A.C and C.A.A waters...in fact have Totham and Braxted waters either side of me!! Smile
I am waiting for the start of renewal next year before i join but am gathering info and gearing up before i decide who to join.
My friend has just taken advantage of Maldons winter discount ticket,,he was at Totham pit y'day i believe.
I think i fancy C.A.A to date although who i join will depend on who has night fishing without restrictions such as having to be a member for a year first etc.
I am up for bailiffing if anyone needs help? Have done this before and like to take litter home!! Wink

I have just joined with the half price winter membership mainly for the river fishing but i do fancy trying some of the lakes for winter roach and perch . Any tips on best venues would be appreciated . Had a walk around some of the lakes last weekend and apart from Totham pit i didn,t see a single person fishing

Thanks for the reply . I do like the look of rook hall but apparently its now closed til end of January. Water level very low at little london but still gonna give it a go . 1 other question; i had a look at the clubs stretch of the blackwater which looks very inviting but somebody at work says it was polluted a couple of years ago and killed a lot of fish in there . Does anybody know anymore about this
