Record numbers of salmon and sea trout in English rivers

Record numbers of salmon and sea trout were found in English rivers during 2009, according to figures released today.

The news comes as the Environment Agency announced that river water quality in England has improved for the 20th consecutive year. Over 70% of rivers are now graded as ‘very good’ or ‘good’ under the organisation’s General Quality Assessment classification (GQA).   read more ...

The Environment Agency has been working with staff at Holm Place Fishing Club on the Isle of Sheppey to improve fishing facilities there.

No stone will be left unturned during a series of surveys to find a creature that has seen populations across Britain devastated since the 1980s.

The Environment Agency is currently carrying out surveys of white-clawed crayfish to discover the health of populations in the rivers of Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire.   read more ...

Watch out! There’s a bailiff about

Since 1 April 2010, Environment Agency bailiffs have checked about 1,300 anglers for licences at more than 500 locations across Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire. A few have been found to be taking a chance and fishing without a licence – consequently, they have been issued with offence tickets and may appear in court.   read more ...
