whether Mick Toomer still had the lease or not makes no difference to what the council can or can't do. They own the lake and the lease can be cancelled at any time with sufficient notice.
Basildon angling has the lease ! The big worry is that it shows what a council can do on "green belt" land and this land is for the people of basildon . This land was given to the people of Basildon as a amenity for the locals to use.( not for any other purpose) it was because of the olympic site being built and what damage it could do to the lake was one of the reasons why mr Toomer lost the lease but it went a lot further than this as i mentioned about the golfcourse haveing hills being built to make the golfing more interesting (from the olympic site dirt) The guy who owns the golfcourse also has the contract for the building of the site in the park and bet your bottom he has the contract for any possible building there .
Basildon council has lied to the people about the land and because of the olympics was allowed to build a sports centre there and that was all now they want to build on green belt land again !
Green belt is there for a reason to protect land from developers and from greedy councils like basildon

can't argue with any of that as it's unfortunately all true, though Mick didn't help himself because he helped complain about what they were doing and the council got the raging hump with him, saying he was biting the hand thats feeds so to speak.
I'm not sure about who actually owns the land, but I am fairly sure they can't just do with it as they see fit as it is designated park land, green belt facility for the local community
Basildon Council is just like many of the larger councils all over the UK - it doesn't matter how many people protest about the Vandalism they (the council) create, they just go ahead and do what they want anyway.
If the rate payers of Basildon (or elsewhere, for that matter) had the easy access to the back pockets of some local officials that the developers seem to, maybe they would take some notice of us.......
By the way, I'm pretty sure that the digging of Gloucester Park lake was part of the deal that the original developers of Aquatels had with the local council - it was the same contractors, machinery and work force that dug out G. park just after Aquatels Lake had been finished........probably cost the council very little - nudge, nudge, wink wink.
