Morning. Can anybody advise a half decent winter suit. Im not looking at spending hundreds of pounds, just something cheap and relatively warm, a 2 peice or somethin. Or if anybody has one to sell (small/med) Im more than happy buying a second hand one....

The Trakker Tundra suit is a good value option. Always best to have layers in the winter. 'Second skin' thermals are a must as a base layer.

The Fox apparel is always great. Just bought they're Evo hoodie, £30.00, but that will last for Years. really warm, and nicely padded.

i tend to use camo flecktarn jackets and if i can get one a flecktarn over trousers. normally in the winter i wear the jacket (very light and very waterproof and breathes) over my fishing green camo jacket and a pair of over camo trousers. From ebay the jackets are £12 or less the camo green NCO suits are about the same price. yes i dont bother with expensive padded gear from some expensive make. I did see one winter jacket and fleece from my local angling shop for well over £100 and take the view they are not worth the money esp in the winter when its very muddy. the last 3 years i have been wearing these suits all year round and wear them on my mc/s .The only thing i can say against them is that you must wash(hand) and soak them in soapy water over night before wearing them (you soon find out why,if yu dont).

A company called qualityarmysurplus (note these are ex german army circa 1992/1999 as new jackets) on ebay sells flacktarn "parka" jackets for under a tenner. these jackets are of a heavy duty cotton material eventhough not waterproof like the other flacktarn jackets which are (breathable too) areboth windproof and more than shower proof.(likely thornproof too) A thermal lining is avaliable at around the same price. so for the price of less than £20 you have a parka that will last years and do not need cleaning just a wipe down with a little soap and water and dry it on the washing line . I think anyway of saving money is a good idea. TF gear and Trakker clothing are great quality ,but i fish over 100 times a year and decent gear would quickly get dirty ...... then there is the extra cost of dry cleaning the gear . ( i assume they can be dry cleaned and not machine washable fabrics). Do yu wash your expensive suit in a washing machine ? In the end its what the angler is comfortable with and how deep his pocket.

Dont bother with asuit made by a fishing company they are all pony.

Get yourself on eBay and buy yourself a snugpak sofitie jacket and trousers and british army gortex jacket and trousers if you want to be water proof.

I think the word is "phoney" I personally would not go that far regarding fishing suits sold by tackle shops with a big brand name.
But i can see his point ! just because its got a name ie fox, diawa, korum . Does not mean its better than a non brand.
The way i look at it thats if its used by professional forces (police fire brigade, army navy airforce in particular foreign forces like germany russia croatia, norwegian, canadian . Who"s winters are pretty bad and very cold and wet. then be ideal for british winter fishing. I cant imagine foreign forces wearing most branded fishing camo gear they simply would not last very long (in muddy ,wet and cold conditions). Remember this aint a fashion parade who is trying to look "the man"when he fishing in front of other anglers.
