It appears a very large "something" grabbed a fully grown goose (canada goose)underwater and killed it. there was a number of people who saw the incident. what was it ?
A number of silly theories have been mentioned. a crocadile a turtle and even a shark has been mentioned.(god knows how it manged to swim into the River Lea)and my favourite a "skin" diver.
But think that the more sensible answer is one hell of a pike or even a catfish. To take a fully grown "weak" goose would take something special in size. a goose would weigh at least 10lbs or more and the share bulk of it. It does not take an expert whatever it was would have to weigh at least 40lbs and i would think a hell of a lot bigger than that to grab and pull down the goose.
The fact that there was no feathers about the goose was taken whole makes the mind bogle by the share of something that big.
Or is this one big april fools joke (in december)
So guys get your pike gear out or should it be catgear/crocadile gear

Would have probably been a catfish mate. If one gets put in, it could practically destroy a river system - one big enough.

come on its a hoax , there have been rumours of a crocadile for a few years on the river lea and they dont spend all their time in the water , has anybody seen it ? i have seen pike and catfish take things of the surface and it make a noise even crocadile make a lot of noise when taking food . as for catfish destroying a river is a load of crap , there are plenty of catfish in the river thames which go to 100lb and there are loads of fish in that river . the only thing that destroys the thames is pollution . unless what took the goose was the loch ness monster which has come down to london for a holiday...

does seem to be a cat or a pike ! i have heard of pike takeing full sized ducks but a goose is a lot bigger. Sturgeon ? they grow to over 100 lbs in a river system but the biggest i know caught in uk waters is around the 70lbs plus mark. would a sturgeon bother ? they tend to be cowards and unlikely to attack a goose. They basically eat anything on the bottom. fish meat and halibut

Well well well it must be the same fish that I heard about in a lake in Kent the other week this monster dragged the goose under with hardly a ripple one moment three geese next two.
There are instances of Pike taking something too big to handle, a couple spring to mind, the dog that was lapping the water and was bitten on the snout or the guy swimming in a wet suite and the fish biting his bare foot. It’s conceivable that a goose put its head under the water and a fish be it Pike or possibly a Catfish mistook it for lunch.
Pike would not be able to swallow a fully grown goose they don’t chew or bite as a dog does, A Big catfish has a much larger mouth and it may be feasible but not likely.
Me I go for the crocodile so don’t sit on the bank boys unless you have a big stick to wedge in there mouth Laughing

Is that the tidal part of the Lea by the Olympic Stadium....if it is does it have to be a freshwater fish???

If we are being stupid, could it not be a Sea Fishing Large Predator??

More like a hoax so we all look at the Stadium and it gets more free publicity...although with Flashes Posts...perhaps I should tell him a 100lb catfish came out my lake last week...and he will post it to get his post count up lol
