Is ther alot of difference between 'pike' and 'carp' rods?
Sorry to sound 'uneducated'

As you know there are different types of Carp rod actions, a through action of around 2.5 to 3lb TC is usable. But not the type that is made for distance casting the size of bait is likely to snap the rod.
A good Pike rod often has to handle not only casting a bait of 8ozs or more but to respond when a fish comes out of the water as Pike often do, carp rods will account for the run of a fish even though the fish fight differently
My rods were built for me by Fosters of Birmingham on a pair of carbon Kevlar cross weave blanks with extra silicon carbide rings, 15 to 20 years ago and are as good now as when I first had them I don’t follow fashion or fads only what I know to work.

Hey there,

I did my work experience at Angling Direct Rayleigh from Monday till Friday. I Know for a fact that they have pike rods there, did you ask? There we're Fox Rage rods at £70. If you didn't, Dean is very helpful and a great guy, and I'm sure Joe, Lee, and Kurt will give you a hand. It's a great store anyways.

When I read the subject title I thought I was gonna read someone having a bit of a moan about the staff youngsters, don't get me wrong they're helpful enough when you speak to them but every time I go in there they're always larking about and chucking things at one another... Surely that can't be good for business?

Last time I went there I had to brace myself before walking through the door as it sounded like a kids party was kicking off when I stepped out the car

Does anyone else find this or is it just me?

I think you will find that the trouble is that most shops now cater for carp fishing and carp match pole fishing. Ask for anything outside of this the younger staff wont know what you are talking about, because most have never used anything else. There are still some shops where you still get good all round service but these are disappearing fast.

I really dislike this store for all the reasons mentioned above. To be fair I haven't been there for a while after vowing never to step foot in there again.

thats a good question i do remember pike rods was general heav y duty spinning rods 9ft ish.. but now 2 piece 12ft pike rods on the market with a fancy price to match. My own pike rod is a two piece 12ft 1.75tc rod. but i find it suitable as light carp ledger or heavy duty general ledger rod. I think any light carp ledger rod or heavy barbel rod (pricey)would be suitable ie 2.25 tc would be ideal. especially if dead baiting.or float fishing.

Agree with you there flash most if not all carp rods make good pike rods. The pike rods I use the most are in fact 1.75 barbel rods. Only use my heavier carp rods if casting big baits. Don't tell the pike I am using barbel rods or they wont take my bait.

It is worrying that a tackle shop is not stocking fishing gear for one reason or another. Normally its because that keeping stock costs money and the longer they have it the more it costs them in both space and profitn there is the high costs ( staff ,electricity)of running a shop. maybe a sports shop could rent out part of the shop as a fishing tackle retailer..... I think we may get to a time where the only tackle being sold , being run from a lockup on ebay .
At least on ebay a private individual can run his business from home with a large garage. It is also very worrying (we seen british companies either moved abroad or been taken over by some chinese company and then the so-called uk company gear being manufactured in china or some country you have never heard of)

Im local to this shop and have had problems in the past with pricing with them...but thats another story...DONT USE THEM!!!

Can I ask ...all Ive seen is people ask about where they can buy certain stuff or this shop is crap........etc etc etc

The Website/Forum is sponsored by a tackle shop yet nobody ever seems to mention them (And we get 10% discount..if memory serves me right???) let alone use them i think???

Get on there website...trust me they will help in anyway shape of form then can....try giving something back and use there shop...at the end of the day they pay for this website just to hear about other fisherman moan...more so others but hey..I wont mention names lol

Had 2 runs with the staff in there and there lack of customer law.

Advertise a price on the website and then go into the shop and the reels where £10 more per reel. Pointed this out to the manager who said that is the website price and that he couldnt match the price.........even off there own website Surprised
I am sure this is called bait and switch

Also asked for a deal on 4 delkims and a receiver and got told that they couldnt offer any deal or discount as this wasnt allowed by Delkim.....price fixing???
Went down the road to another shop and got a deal.
