what Rod+Reels do you use when catfishing?

Just a query friends,

For me its ,
Shimano xtea 10 000 Reels with 15lb daiwa sensor and Greys prodigy X
2.75 tc

wouldn't you say that a lil bit ott evenfishing at 120+ yards mate esp the reels and rods could land jaws there musnt beany fun close in

I use 3.5lb SK3s with Shimano Ultegra XSAs, with either 30lb braid when I can or 20lb sensor if braid is banned.

Use to use 3lb tc rods and the original 10000 xtes but I feel like I have alot more control (if thats even possible with big cats!) with this setup

lol yh but if you fish for carp sometimes 13 ft 3.5lb tc cn be bit too much for carp but for cats i agree and my 2.75lbers are okay for cats but im gooing to start using my dads harrison balistas 3.5lb tc as atm im sometimes im gettin played by the cat not the other way around lol

The key is to ballance the tackle, the fights are still great fun on this gear.

2.5tc shimano 8000 baitrunners and 15lb sensor line well i have just got the new korda line but have not tried it yet,g-point hoooks snakebite hook link.

I have had 8 cats from 40lb to just under 50lb on this set up,i dont understand why people think you have to use 3,5lb tc as the people who cat fish alot will tell you that when a big cat goe's on a run then there nothink you can do 4lb tc or not......................

total agree and i too use 15lb sensor and 2.75 rods plus 10000 baitrunners, any non cat angler beleive me and marcus. they'll snap 40lb line if they wont, though its hard down crow green simply because they kite and dont stopp running over others line

That happen to last week i hook onto a big cat guessing around 50lb plus it took me about 100yards from the margin i hook it arcoss the lake towards a big bush when i see it getting closer to the bush,i locked up and it snaped 15lb line like cotton.. Mad

tis happened to me twice in on day when fish far right swimat crow green it took me up to te island and snapped

The whole idea behind the strong tackle is to stop the cats before they get up to speed.

Well in france a couple of weeks ago, i was using 3lb greys x-flights with daiwa entoh pits and 17lb x-line, this held a cat of 40lb away from the big bed of pads i was fishing along side.

The technique that worked for me was fishing a tight spool (not locked) with the line in the clip on the rod, this enabled me to get hold of the cat before it got in the lilys, although there were a few hairy moments the tackle and line held up very well.

I think the fishing situation depends on what you use as well, i mean if the lake you fish is not snaggy then you don't need excessive breaking strain mainline, as you can let the cat run without the risk of snagging up.
A guy who was fishing on the lake at the same time as me in France was using 10lb xline and 2.5lb freespirit Hi-s', he landed cats to over 60lb on this setup!!
