RIVER RODING

How is the river fishing, I am thinking about rejoining again for this winter.

2 5lb+ chubb on the 1st day. lots of roach at stanford rivers in the new swims in the willows etc.

Thanks Andy, still looks as if the river is at drought level. Have you fished the Wid this year?

i have not fished the wid this season yet. the flood relief lagoons are going ahead at stanford rivers. how these ( there are 2) fill up and empty i dont know.may increase flow during dry times.

I assume they will dig an inlet and outlet channel from the river. Just where are they building them? Hopefully the fish in this section won't get caught up in these when they dry out after a flood.

if you know stanford rivers stretch(traceys farm) the cottages will have to go so it could be not near the river. one of the commitee went to the original consultation meeting but that was years ago.

I fished the River Wid at Writtle a few weeks ago and although the riverside vegetation was very high I did manage to catch a 2lb chub.
I was disgusted to find that someone had been near the wier and had left a lot of rubbish including beer cans on the bank. Unfortunately I had nothing with me to put the rubbish in and take it away. Of course it may not have been a BADAC member who left it there!

its the public more than anglers, a couple of years ago at patch park families thought the tractor crossing was a great place for picnics and the rubbisl left was terrible. the roding goes within 50 mtrs and under the M25 and there is always rubbish near there. at shonks mill we suspect a flat back truck pulled alongside the river and pushed a twin head engine into the river.

just popped over to the irons at stanford rivers for an hour at 20.30 had a tap on the quiver tip then it bent over a chubb 3lb 5ozs on legered lucheon meat size 6 hook. quivertip illuminated by a torch. no crays messing with the bait which was unusual.

Just been looking at a map of the proposed flood storage at shonks mill. It would appear that the whole of the Tracy farm section would become a flood storage area not just a couple of flood lagoons.

I think this would also mean altering the river and removing the trees.

yes mr wilson said the houses would go however anyone been to stanford rivers can see bulldozers built the bank up to stop flooding which does not work and keeps the water in the field for longer eventually draining into shonks mill by the original river course. i wonder if the ea will level this area off like at passingford bridge as the fields there act like a proper flood plain. as the budget is no where near the £165,000 they got years ago i,ll believe it when work starts.

Water level on the Roding is very low at the moment - lowest I've seen it since we had access to the level monitoring stations.

Not just at Shonks' either, all the levels from High Ongar down to Abridge are below lowest summer levels.

A bit worrying.................... Sad

if you fancy roving with a float go to stanford rivers if you want to stay put go to passingford bridge with 2 rods 1 with a small dead bait the other with a worm or maggots. the dead bait is in case it is a blue sky which most of the fish except pike hate which does not effect the fish as much at stanford rivers fighting the flow.
