on saturday late afternoon went over had 14 roach and 6 perch. no 2lb+ perch yet or a tench, have not seen any carp either. the roach at passingford have really dark backs probably because of the clear water may go out later to shonks mill

went out yesterday afternoon for 1st afternoon/evening session of this season at passingford bridge. with minimal flow and a floating weed covering 80% of the river i fished the broken down fence swim with the large tree on the otherside. as i was setting up about 2-3ft below the surface was a large carp which dived down as i spotted it (9ft deep) and by the time i set up my 2 rods it was back at passingford mill pool where they live. at 17.30 my double lobworm rods bobbin shot up about 6 inches and i lifted into a perch about 3ozs with my size 6 hook in its mouth. a few bites that failed to develop was the end result and i packed up at seven. pretty poor could have hooked a large carp if it came along later. need rain and lots of it.

the streach i go to (ODAS) is barely a trickle connecting some pools, i went down to have a go but ended up fishing on the small pond.

Looking at the EA water level site all rivers in the south are suffering from low flow rate just on or below normal summer levels. Just where water is going to come from for next summer is a big problem. We know that if we get some heavy rain now we know all it will do is flash flood and be run off.
What we need is a month or two of steady rain.

Bl**dy typical - been waiting since June for a drop of water and when it arrives I'm down with a nasty bug of some sort.

Unless it rains some more the level will be be back down low level again by Monday.

The law of Sod strikes again..........

i walked from mitchells farm to the big pool near shonks mill where a member was quiver tipping worm. it was late about 3pm and he had a decent perch. he was going to stay until he couldn,t see so he might have got a bonus chubb. it was good to see the reeds we pulled out in early summer have stayed clear. lots more to pull out next year. very low water despite the rain as the abstraction licences started in october and are probably in full swing. went over the wid to see a friend and i could see his bait on the bottom. i might do an evening session over passingford bridge tomorrow.

hi steve
three of us got in the big pool and just pulled the reeds out with our hands this was just after river season had started.they were going right across the river so we made a gap and the flow increased. i went back in the evening with stick and pin and caught a nice perch. we also tried to clear the small pool downstream of the big pool however we only cleared about half, this was a good swim years ago. you are ok in most areas with chest waders and we were reaching down and getting the roots as well as the stems probbly why thety have not returned.only problem is the best time to remove them in my opinion is mid to late june.
