I have just been informed by a TNT driver that the bailiffs were in there this morning clearing out the shop. Appears they have gone bust!

We're not sure if this is the case as nothing has been confirmed but if true its quite sad.

Some real good lads at Wickford could lose their jobs and it shows the effect of the recession on shops, and also the effect things like Ebay has on local Tackle shops too.

Your local shop will be there if a product goes wrong, will be there for your fresh bait and bits when you decide to go for a quick unplanned trip, support them or lose them.

Agree mate and I dont think it was to long ago that they moved to a bigger shop?????
Things like ebay do have a effect on tackle shops but there is nothing stopping the tackle shops getting on there themselfs. I know total tackle are and look like they do really well from it.

dnt like to see people loose ther jobs, but what i said is a fact.

it was full of good stock when it 1st opened in the big unit that was a while ago now. i dont think you can blame e-bay i,ll rather hold in my hand what i am buying. when i buy bulk spools of line i like to see how it hangs off the spool when you unwind a meter or so and test it with a set of avon scales, do that on e-bay. as a match angler and specialist i get everything from big fish ,its 16 miles away but the A12 is a quick road at the right times

sounds to me that basildon angling is now your nearest shop!
To be honest its not really supriseing with most deals are now done on ebay and other online advertiseing companies. Personally i think that there are too shops on ebay doing business. the whole point of ebay and palpal was for private individuals to see there gear and bget protection from dodgy deals now its looks like something 90% of all deals are now done by registered companies . this is surely wrong !

Cant say I am surprised to be honest. Like any business there is stiff competition and unfortunately for Wickford angling there are lots of other good tackle shops near them.

I think its fair to say the writing has been on the wall for a while for Wickford. They appeared to have little or no stock and had moved from the top brand products to cheaper goods. For the last 2 years the shop has looked in demise and there customers just started going elsewhere I think.

We have just been advised that Bennets of Sheffield have ceased trading from yesterday.

More sad news from the Trade as such large companies feel the effect of the current economic climate.
