As you can see above Kristy people are fishing the lake. I used to fish the lake quite a lot some years back.

It could be a good lake, it is a decent size, a fair few features, shallow areas and deeper areas, a nice gravel bar, 2 islands and plenty of silty areas.

The main problem with the lake is that it is a public park lake, so it is access for all, people fishing over there constantly get pestered by kids, yobs dogs etc etc and this is something that no one can do anything about as it is public access.

But as i say it could be a good lake and i know there used to be carp up to 30lb in there, whats left in there now? i am not sure, i remember in the summer the carp used to love cruising on the surface and there was quite a few of them as well, so when the weather gets better and the carp come up to the surface it should give you an idea of the stock of the carp. the carp fishing always used to be hard going, but again i put it down to being a park lake and the carp getting spooked by all sorts going on around the park.

As for other species, theres loads of gudgeon, roach, a ton of bream, the odd tench so a real mixed bag and generally in nice conditon.

So i would say it is a challenging place and would take quite a lot of work to get to it's full potential, but it is acheviable, the only thing that caps how good this water could be is the fact it is a lake in a public park.

Hope this helps a little.

Pete

oh does that mean it wont be free to fish anymore Kristy Crying or Very sad

seriously that would be good if someone does take it over , it may stop some of the lesser life forms from fishing it Smile

i fished there just for a couple of hours this evening and had some decent roach and a few small rudd

loads of swirls in the water and some decnt fish topping the surface , didnt get the decent tinca i was after though , i was float fishing , but am gona give the maggot feeder a go maybe friday night

I've never fished the Res before, but have heard mixed stories about the place....if this properly looked after, this lake could be a gold mine, I'm suprised the people who own Stambridge fisheries havent looked into getting the lease for the lake and add it too there fisheries??

i had 2 small tench fishing on the bottom with corn , last night there was some very big swirls and some decent tench type bubbles pretty much all over the place , altho a guy walking by did explain to me that the lake has a silty bottom and they were silt bubbles Smile it was then that he said there was no tench in there until i told him i caught 2 the previous weekend Rolling Eyes

agree with 71SRWARREN if the place is taken over and properly run it could well be a gold mine , if the price for membership was right i would definitley consider joining altho im not sure how it would be possible to make it anything other than a day ticket venue as it is a public type park aswell ??

Hi All,

Rochford AC let the lease go as they had trouble with policing the lake...Eastern Europeans, night fishing, litter and louts!!!

It was significantly netted in 2006/7 to remove as many fish as possible and these were transfered to a number of their other waters.
But as anyone "seriously" involved, full time, in fisheries management knows that seine netting is only about 50-70% effectve at the best of times. So what is left in their is anybody's guess until it gets caught!!!

It would need restocking, but the cost of fish to get it up and running again may prove inhibitive.

I am also after the lease, been after it for about 18 months, and would welcome any comments or feedback from forum members as to how it should be run.

Bear in mind it is not just for anglers, but birdwatchers, walkers and is a public park backing onto peoples houses!!!

Many Thanks

I have been fishing the res in the last few weeks a few hours in the evening a couple of times a week and tbh is really good sport fishing on the float , there hasnt been many people fishing there of late and the ones that are , are fishing for carp.

i have been using maggots and fishing on the bottom pretty much right under the rod tip and have caught loads of perch (i got to 30 last monday and then stopped counting) had a couple of eels aswell , loads roach and rudd all great condition fish and on my last cast on monday had a 3lb orfe a lovely pinky orange colour i can only imagine someone got bored of it in their pond or something and decided to put it in the res.

as for running the place if it was taken over its a public park as you say so i cant see that it could possibly be made into a members lake (altho at a decent price id join straight away) Laughing
so id imagine it would have to be a day ticket venue but i can't see how you could charge say £10 until you knew if there was bigger fish still in there , i know a kid who regularly night fishes it and he had a 16lb mirror carp a couple of weeks back. there are signs up that say no night fishing and no camping but cos no-one is running the place its pretty much do what you want , to be fair to the houses that back onto the lake i would make it no night fishing also cos i must admit i wouldnt be happy living there if you had people fishing behind my house unless there was no noise whatsoever.

it would be great if someone got the lease as it deserves to be a place that is properly run and properly looked after

Good Luck

Well if its a park lake the council must own and be responsible for it, they should do what basildon and harlow have done with thier park lakes which is get someone to run it for them. micky toomer ran the park lakes of billericay and basildon well enough and in harlow stort valley angling club run two of the ponds on public parks. this way someone is there to stop fish thefts or illegal night fishing and make sure it does not become full of litter, parks angling clunb run park lakes in southend so there is a precednet for it/

As I said i have been after the lease since Rochford gave it up.

If anyone wants an idea of how I run lakes, look after and maintain them I have two lakes at Mill Lane in Stambridge that you can look at and one in Chelmsford (but that might be too far for just a look).

If you go towards Stambridge and just before the Cherry Tree pub there is a large sign for Broommills Care Home and a sign for Mill Lane Fishery underneath. Go down the end of Mill Lane and park up on the tarmac car park. Feel free to go into both fisheries through the swing gates and have a look round.

Hopefully If I get Rochford Res and with a bit of TLC, it will look like these in a few years time.

Many Thanks

How long have you been negotiating with Rochford Council Spark? Its been left unattended for some time now.
Would be nice if they made some decisions about the place, but Rochford Council move in mysterious ( and ponderously slow ) ways.
The summer hols are just round the corner, and I can see this being a 'camping with fishing rods' venue for the local mafia. This wont go down well with local residents, especially those who's gardens back onto the lake.
With this and the ever increasing Polish population in Rochford stealing what fish are left, If a lease isn't secured fast, then I can see police and local pressure forcing a 'no fishing' rule on the council.
Hopefully this is a scenario that wont occurr, and the council will actually do what they are paid to do for a change, rather than sitting in their lovely offices having meetings to discuss how the last meeting went.
Its a nice venue and should be guarded for the future fishing use of the locals. I think a club is the only way to do this , because the lake has such public access ( rightly so) I cant see anything other than a club issuing day tickets being the way forward.
I cant see the Council allowing a club to control it with no public day ticket fishing access, as its a public amenity, and should remain so.
