Not sure if they can cos its a flood relief.
You sure its not the boating lake cos theyre building right next to it.
Maybe Skunky69 can shed some light as hes a bailiff over there.
Id be gutted if they did fill it in as i do 90% of my fishing there.

Apparently it was in local press ?
Haven't fished it for years but its a great place to learn for youngsters and on top of aquatels getting a change of use doesn't bode well for anglers in basildon who can't travel far

A NEW lake, children’s play area and improved lighting are coming to Basildon’s Gloucester Park as part of a £1.4million scheme.

The money will be invested by Barratt Wilson Bowden, in exchange for the company getting planning permission to build 144 new homes in place of the former swimming pool and surrounding land at the park, off Broadmayne.

The size of the new lake has still to be finalised through ongoing negotiations between Barratt and Basildon Council, but a council spokesman confirmed it would be smaller than the old lake by pool site, which will mostly be concreted over and built on.

I found this but its about the boating lake hopefully just crossed wires.

so now we know why basildon council wanted the lake back from the original licensee. So what does Basildon angling say on the subject. Dont they have the lease on the lake or have they lost it?
There had been a lot of building done very close to the fishing lake for the olympic park (there had been a cause of concern in the papers regarding building materials getting into the lake itself.)
what is the situation now regarding the works and is the building rubbish still sent to the golfcourse nearby?
holdon is this still not a recoration space for the community. (sort of green belt) or only when it suits the council to allow houseing to be built .,sounds to me something dodgy is a foot on this.
I was already warned a couple of years back is that was the intention of the counciltodo this. And that was why they wanted to get the lease back from toomey.

whether Mick Toomer still had the lease or not makes no difference to what the council can or can't do. They own the lake and the lease can be cancelled at any time with sufficient notice.

Basildon angling has the lease ! The big worry is that it shows what a council can do on "green belt" land and this land is for the people of basildon . This land was given to the people of Basildon as a amenity for the locals to use.( not for any other purpose) it was because of the olympic site being built and what damage it could do to the lake was one of the reasons why mr Toomer lost the lease but it went a lot further than this as i mentioned about the golfcourse haveing hills being built to make the golfing more interesting (from the olympic site dirt) The guy who owns the golfcourse also has the contract for the building of the site in the park and bet your bottom he has the contract for any possible building there .
Basildon council has lied to the people about the land and because of the olympics was allowed to build a sports centre there and that was all now they want to build on green belt land again !
Green belt is there for a reason to protect land from developers and from greedy councils like basildon

can't argue with any of that as it's unfortunately all true, though Mick didn't help himself because he helped complain about what they were doing and the council got the raging hump with him, saying he was biting the hand thats feeds so to speak.

I'm not sure about who actually owns the land, but I am fairly sure they can't just do with it as they see fit as it is designated park land, green belt facility for the local community

Basildon Council is just like many of the larger councils all over the UK - it doesn't matter how many people protest about the Vandalism they (the council) create, they just go ahead and do what they want anyway.

If the rate payers of Basildon (or elsewhere, for that matter) had the easy access to the back pockets of some local officials that the developers seem to, maybe they would take some notice of us.......

By the way, I'm pretty sure that the digging of Gloucester Park lake was part of the deal that the original developers of Aquatels had with the local council - it was the same contractors, machinery and work force that dug out G. park just after Aquatels Lake had been finished........probably cost the council very little - nudge, nudge, wink wink.
